7 Causes Of Negative Thinking Which Will Destroy Your Success

The causes of negative thinking are many and would require a book to list them all.

In this article, we will reveal seven leading causes of negative thoughts and you will probably be surprised by some of them.

That’s because you are going to recognize some or all of these in your day to day activities.

Once you get these negativity types under control, your life will change for the better.

Quite simply, negative thinking is an epidemic that’s out of control and in these trying times, it’s never been more prevalent.

Before we reveal the top seven negativity causes let’s look at what it is and why it’s a bad thing.

Causes Of Negativity – How Do You Recognize It?

Negativity in a person is easily recognizable.

Whether it’s in yourself or in other people you interact with, it is present in everyone’s life.

How you deal with it or repel it is key. While it will never disappear from your life, recognizing it will be like building a forcefield around yourself.

So how do you recognize it?

A person displaying negativity will usually be downcast, down beat, full of skepticism and generally argumentative. They will disagree with most things and expect the worst from most situations.

For example when they watch their favorite sports team they hope they’ll win but will expect the worst. Or they’ll talk like they expect something bad to befall them. Comments such as “well, if it was going to happen to anyone it was me” or “I’m like a magnet for bad things happening to me”.

Why Is Negativity A Bad Thing?

The law of attraction dictates that whatever you conceive in your mind or think about you will attract.

When you are thinking negative thoughts all day or talking bad about yourself or others, then what else can the sub conscious send your way?

Negativity blocks positive energy flow; it’s like a barrier that prevents good energy flow coming to you.

There are all types of abuse but one we don’t hear about a lot is self abuse. Being a constant “negative nellie” is simply a form of self abuse.

If you are a fearful or insecure person, then negative thinking is just confirming those tendencies.

Confidence suffers and achieving goals becomes nigh on impossible. We are being brutally honest here because unless you recognize it, negativity can harm you in all facets of your life and that includes relationships.

What Causes Negative Thinking?

Here are seven causes of negative thinking. Let’s be clear; these aren’t the only causes. As we mentioned earlier, there are way too many to list here.

What we are trying to do in this article is list the seven main culprits with each of these spawning their own set of negative thought creators.

Ready?

Perfectionism

Are you surprised? As impressive as it sounds to tell people you are a perfectionist the odds you’re successful are low.

Perfectionism is a disease and you need to stop. It causes procrastination, stalls progress and creates anxiety.

And even worse, by trying to do something that’s impossible will make you feel less than adequate or just “less than”. And your mind will sink into deep negative thinking. Stop trying to be perfect.

Being Judgmental

Being judgmental is spoken about in the bible. We all judge, some more than others. It’s not conducive to achieving success.

Being judgmental relates to how you really feel about yourself. It’s got to do with just focussing on the negative qualities of yourself and others.

When you do this and judge out loud to yourself and others, you are feeding your sub conscious which is like a mirror. You know the rest.

Self Doubt

Self doubt is one of the major causes of negative thinking. If you think you can’t then you won’t.

Self doubt affects everything you do. Walking around thinking you are less than leads to severe negativity meaning you will usually pass up many opportunities.

There is only one way to describe self doubt. It’s like weeds growing in your garden and it will eventually overrun it. Kill self doubt starting today and watch your negativity die along with it.

Four More Causes Of Negative Thinking

The three negative thinking causes we’ve just listed are the three “biggies”. Perfectionism in our view is the kingpin. The following four causes are all associated with it in some way.

Always Thinking The Worst

Are you guilty of this? I don’t know you but I’m betting the answer is yes.

A combination of perfectionism and self doubt, assuming the worst permeates all aspects of your life. It will affect your chances of having good relationships, accepting mediocrity, never expecting success whether in your work life, business or sport.

You know what to do.

Worrying

Like self doubt, worry will accelerate your negative thinking.

There are legitimate reasons for worry but most times, worrying doesn’t help you in any way. Sending out bad thoughts can come back and “hit you right between the eyes”. It’s almost self fulfilling.

Worrying all the time won’t change anything but it will affect your mental state and physical health.

Complaining

When you complain you focus on negative things. Your energy is putrid and you are saying to the universe “please send me more of this bad stuff”.

Yes, it’s hard not to complain in many instances but you have to learn to “bite your tongue”. Complaining out loud is like putting jet fuel on a fire of negativity meaning you will never be content or happy.

It’s another spawn of the perfectionism syndrome so if you want to get good energy flow coming into your life, hold your tongue.

Being Controlling

No one can control everything. Whether it’s in your personal or work life, trying to do everything yourself only leads to failure.

You affect your mental state; you damage your relationship with others and all this can lead to hurting your health and well being.

Don’t become a micro manager. Trust others. We weren’t designed to be an island. When you try to do everything yourself and inevitably fail, who are you going to blame? Yes, yourself. And what follows? Negative thinking.

Negative Thinking Causes – Final Thoughts

Space has prevented us from providing the solutions to beating negative thoughts in this article but watch this space as we will provide the answers shortly.

For now, just be aware of them. Start with perfectionism. Get it under control. You’ll know what to do.

For example, people who work at home will often wait for the perfect looking website design before they put their information online.

That’s crazy. Just get it online and the rest will follow.

Would you consider sharing your negative thinking experience? Did you beat it? What did you do to turn things around?

What started out as an intention to fix my own problems, has turned into a mission to share my research with as many people as possible. I’m betting life has thrown you lemons. We've all tasted the same lemons but the key to overcoming the sour tasting result, is to look at failure and give it the middle finger. Maybe my pain can be your gain in whatever area of life you're looking to improve in.
