3 Productivity Tips For Working A Home Based Business

Productivity Tips

Productivity tips are a dime a dozen for working from home but there are three things if you’re not doing, you’ll struggle to build your home based business.

When I first started working at home, the last thing on my mind was learning productivity tips.

It seemed simple. Get up in the morning without pressure from a boss, and work at your leisure.

Needless to say, I struggled for several months before finding a mentor. The first thing he looked at was my routine. I was told it sucked.

Looking back at that time, I cringe when I think of the routine I had and then expecting my home based business to be a success.

But I also look back at it with great fondness because it was a new beginning and an exciting new phase in my life.

If you’ve started your own home based business and want to succeed in your endeavors, know that without a routine, you’ll probably fail.

Working from home is hard. The mental discipline to succeed can be overwhelming. The following productivity tips won’t guarantee success but they’ll give you a solid springboard on the way to it.

Set Priorities

You are your own boss. No one is going to be responsible for you succeeding in your home business but you. Setting priorities is crucial. Do you know what they are?

If you have been working at home for any length of time you should start to have an understanding of what’s important and what isn’t. Here’s a tip. What is your best skill?

Once you identify it, that’s what you set your priorities around. That means making sure the most productive time of the day for you is when you utilize your super skill.

Once you’ve identified this, then the rest of your tasks and when to do them will be a lot clearer. For example, if writing is your number one skill, use the time of the day when you’re at your most creative to write. Make sense?

Establish A Routine

In a normal job, you have a daily routine you adhere to. Working from home is no different.

Without a routine, no productivity tips are going to help you in producing the results you need to be successful.

Your work days will be haphazard. Unorganized chaos will rule your day.

Here are some important tips to establish routine:

  • a regular work space
  • a regular starting time each day
  • create established hours when you are working on your business
  • shut off distractions such as email and phone calls during this time
  • establish work time blocks and rest periods

These are just five to get you started but as you grow in your business, your routines will develop.

They will become obvious and you need to stick to them as close as possible barring unforeseen circumstances.

Maintain Mental Energy And Clarity

If you are mentally tired all the time then you need to examine why. Having a clear and strong mental energy keeps you focussed and productivity levels will be high.

It’s a fact that strong work productivity often relates to your energy levels.

If you’re tired all the time your output will be low. If you’re energized then it will be high and your decision-making will be sharp and focussed. Areas to improve mental clarity include:

  • resting often
  • maintaining a regular sleep pattern
  • having a regular exercise routine
  • eating healthy

It sounds simple yes, but don’t underestimate the power of having strong mental clarity.

When you are energized your confidence levels are up and your positive output increases. Make this a priority when considering productivity tips for your home based business.
